According to Gulf News, Dubai police launched a major crackdown on unknown drug
dealers. It is reported that 100 drug dealers have been arrested so far during
this crackdown.
Dubai police say the
drug dealer contacted people through anonymous WhatsApp numbers and advertised
various drugs. These drug dealers used to send WhatsApp messages in Arabic
language and try to persuade the citizens to buy drugs. A campaign called
"Unknown Messages" was launched to crack down on this network of drug
dealers, during which crackdowns were launched against drug dealers.
According to Dubai
Police, the arrested drug dealers were involved in selling drugs through GPS.
This drug dealer would settle the transaction after burying the consignment of
drugs in the ground at any particular place and then tell his client the
location of the hidden drugs through GPS. Colonel Abdullah, a senior Dubai
police official, said a special awareness campaign had been launched with the
help of the Central Bank and the RTA Authority to protect citizens from drugs.
Citizens are urged to
immediately report any message received through WhatsApp for sale of narcotics
by contacting e-Crime Platform or Non-Emergency Hotline 901. Colonel Abdullah
said the awareness campaign had yielded positive results, with calls to the 901
hotline increasing by 33%, while the e-crime platform received 632 complaints.
The rate of complaints received on e-crime platform increased by 158% during
the last 3 months
